Designed to showcase the maneuvers of a working ranch horse, Reining (just like the reins used on a horse's neck) is a judged competition that highlights the athletic ability of a horse through the performance of required elements such as small slow circles, large fast circles, flying lead changes, roll backs over the hocks, 360 degree spins, and exciting sliding stops that are the hallmark of the reining horse. Dubbed "Western Dressage", this variety of movements is linked into a graceful sequence with no observable resistance on the horse's part. For freestyle events, the movements are set to music and performed in costume. This is a particularly thrilling crowd-pleaser.
Reining is the fastest growing sport in the equine industry. In 1998 Reining became the first Western Discipline and the sixth Equestrian Discipline overall to be approved by the United States Equestrian Team. Reining is quickly gaining popularity not only in the USA but throughout the world. In 2000, reining became the first Western Discipline to be approved by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) and became a full medal discipline at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain. The 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany also featured reining as a full medal sport before large sold-out audiences. Reining was a smach success at the most recent WEG in Lexington, KY. HorsePower, Inc. was proud to produce the Reining activities at the 2010 World Equestrain Games. Reining was demonstrated at the Olympics in Sydney, Australia and is being considered as a full-fledged Olympic sport for the summer Olympics - a dream that all Reining fans aspire towards.
HorsePower, Inc. has actively worked to satisfy the niche in production, management and execution of high-performance Reining events. With a strong focus on national and international championships, HorsePower, Inc. has proudly produced nearly all of the sport's major championships in the last decade. Our choice to choose quality and high-impact events over quantity allows us the opportunity to spend additional resources and dedication to each project, and with great rewards.
HorsePower, Inc. specifically alligns itself with the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) not only because it is the international governing body for all equestrian sport, and the equestrian branch of the International Olympic Committee, but because FEI events and those of the member National Federations include specific rules on the welfare of the horse - something we at HorsePower, Inc. take very, VERY seriously. We love horses. That is why we work in the industry we do. The FEI not only allows for a nice set of expectations for the proper use of horses within sport, it also offers and exciting and truly international reach for the sport of Reining.
